These small light bulbs come in a wide range of sizes, shapes, colors, technologies and more. They are used for everything from emergency exit signs and stairway signs to automotive lighting, household appliance lighting, flashlights and other gadgets.
Many vehicles, flashlights, specialty lighting fixtures, scientific equipment and commercial signage use miniature light bulbs not easily found at your local shop. Their obscure applications make them one of the most difficult light bulb types to shop for.
From decorative lighting to landscape lighting, various appliance lighting, interior and exterior automotive lighting applications, and an incredible variety of commercial signage lighting, these small light bulbs are as diverse as their applications. And they come in a wide variety of technologies to accommodate these many applications, including LED, halogen, incandescent, xenon, krypton, HID and even compact fluorescent.
From frosted bulbs in a wide range of colors to small light bulbs with faceted plastic lenses, our mini light bulbs category offers some of the most intriguing, hard-to-find specialty light bulbs available.
Remember, if our comprehensive filtering options don’t reveal the bulb you need, you can contact us here and we’ll be happy to help you track down exactly what you’re after.
Now, let’s take a look at the three main categories of mini light bulbs: the T-shape, S-shape and RP/R-shape.
T-Shape Mini Light Bulbs
The most common category of mini bulbs, the T-shape light bulb is a logical design, allowing for use in tight, compact spaces. Many applications don’t allow for a wider, rounder light bulb, which makes the T-shape ideal for many fixtures, gadgets and appliances.
Many T-shape mini bulbs offer the bayonet base, a type of fitting used throughout the United Kingdom and other countries that were once part of the British Empire. Additionally, you’ll find that the bi-pin base is a popular design as well. Bi-pins are denoted by the letter G, followed by a number indicating the distance between the two pins in millimeters. For example, a G4 bi-pin is a mini bulb whose pins are four millimeters apart from center of pin to center of pin. Lastly, some T-shape mini light bulbs employ a wedge base, a popular base for automotive applications and low voltage lighting.
S-Shape Mini Light Bulbs and Sign Light Bulbs
The S-shape mini bulb has a wide range of vehicular applications, from automotive lighting to aircraft lighting. They’re also used in precision scientific lighting and medical lighting equipment, as well as a wide range of commercial signage.
Available in LED, compact fluorescent, halogen and incandescent, these bulbs are used in vehicle turn signals, dashboards, interior dome lights and license plate lights. Other styles of S-shape bulbs come in a wide variety of colors for use in commercial signage, including bright, long-lasting ceramic LEDs.
S-shape bulbs come in a variety of bases, including the bayonet base, the candelabra base for vehicle indicators and decorative lighting, the wedge base for appliances, the double contact prefocus base for projectors, and the standard Edison screw base for a variety of applications.
RP/R-Shape Mini Light Bulbs
Reflector Parabolic and Reflector mini light bulbs are commonly used in elevator lighting, medical instruments and aircraft lighting applications. The light bulbs typically have a bayonet base; single contact or double contact. They are often abbreviated to BA with a number following to indicate the diameter of the base.
JC-Shape Mini Light Bulbs
JC-shape bulbs are found in desk lamps, puck lighting underneath kitchen cabinets and accent lighting throughout the home. These tiny, capsule-shaped halogen bulbs emit bright, clean light in a small area, creating concentrated pools of light perfect for prepping food and highlighting décor.
Available with a G4 base or a GY6.35 base, these numbers indicate the distance in millimeters between the base’s two pins. Bulbs with these base types use low-voltage (12V or 24V) or line voltage (120V). JC-shape bulbs are also available with a G8 base – which are always line voltage (120V). It’s important to be aware of which type of voltage your current lamp is using. Also, be sure to handle these bulbs with latex gloves or similar protection, as bare skin can damage them, shortening their life span.
